Sowing and Reaping

Your Blessings Start With Your Giving – Luke 6:38

Thursday, January 10, 2013

If you want to prosper, you must first help others prosper. Your blessings start with your giving. We are not strictly talking money. You can give your time, your ear, clothes, food, talents, and of course money. But before you ask for a blessing, ask yourself are YOU a blessing to someone else.

Luke 6:38
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Sowing Seed In Fertile Soil Does Bring A Harvest

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Lately, I have received a series of blessings that I did not ask for. And because I was unemployed, they are right on time and especially appreciated.

Just to name a FEW of my recent blessings, my stylist relaxed my hair for free, my girlfriend and her husband offered to pay for 3 sets of school uniforms for both of my children, and my favorite nail shop did my nails for free ( I was getting them done for an upcoming interview). I did not ask any of these “angels” to bless me. They found it in their hearts to bless me without being prompted.

I shared these blessings with one of my close friends (which are just a few that I have recently experienced). She quickly reminded me that I deserved these blessings because I have a kind heart, am a good person, and have helped many people in the past. She said when you are nice to people it comes back. And I agree. There have been many times in the past where I have given with no agenda attached. I do this because it makes me feel good. It gives me an inner peace. And there is a level of liberty achieved when you give with a pure, genuine heart. This is called sowing seed.

The bible says if you sow seed you will reap a harvest. If you sow with malicious intent, you will reap a harvest that will not make you happy.

Proverbs 11:18

18The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

Many times people get defensive when they hear Christians or church leaders mentioning sowing a seed. For one, they think it has to do strictly with money. But this is not the case. You can sow your time. You may have a gift that can bless someone. For example, if you have the skill of sewing, you could volunteer your time to help sew blankets for the upcoming cold season to assist those who are in need like the homeless. You may volunteer your time to mentor a child. You may make an effort to listen to someone who just needs an ear. Or you may smile at a stranger or take it one step further and make them laugh. These are all examples of sowing seed.

God sees everything we do. He sees when you go that extra mile to bless someone. Rather than being stingy with tipping your waiter/waitress who may be a college student, why not bless them with an unusual tip. Trust me it does come back to you in time. Now of course we can pay tithes to the church and we can make offerings. These too come back as blessings to you. I have contributed financially to my church throughout the years and I know the money I sowed to my church has been used to be a blessing to others. Well, during this financial storm in my life, I was blessed to be a recipient of financial help from my church. It all comes back to you.

Not only that, because of the network of friends I have been blessed to obtain, there are quite a few folks praying on my behalf. And the prayers are working indeed. I have received a verbal job offer and am waiting on everything to become official! God is good and always right on time!

So whether you are in a storm or not, remember to sow seed. God sees your actions and knows your heart. He will provide your every need. He may use people that you bless to in turn bless you.

Psalm 126:5

5They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Genesis 26:12

12Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

 Psalm 107:37

37And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

God Bless You
