Dealing With An Uncertain Economy, Unemployment, Depression, Loneliness

Tuesday, November 25, 2008
By

Many of us are facing adversity from many fronts. Some of us are dealing with unemployment. Some are going to work, knowing that job cuts will happen but do not know if they will be in the group that will be laid off. Some of us face other battles like loneliness, betrayal, depression, obsession, illness. The possibilities are numerous. But I’m here to tell you for the believers of God The Father, for the believers of Jesus Christ the Son (our Savior), the adversity is but a minute and the outcome is favorable to us who believe.

The bible shares many promises our Lord God has made to us, the children of Zion (Israel), the children of Abraham (those who confess Jesus as Lord and Savior). And before I share a specific scripture, understand that many times people fuss over whether to take scripture literally or figuratively. And even in taking it figuratively many misinterpret the meaning. But the verses I will share, no matter how interpreted are loaded with the unshakable, unstoppable promise of victory and protection by God and granted to us that are saved (believers that Jesus Christ is our Access To God). Here is Isaiah 54, followed by my interpretation of God’s uplifting words:

Isaiah 54
1 “Sing, O barren woman,
       you who never bore a child;
       burst into song, shout for joy,
       you who were never in labor;
       because more are the children of the desolate woman
       than of her who has a husband,”
       says the LORD.
 2 “Enlarge the place of your tent,
       stretch your tent curtains wide,
       do not hold back;
       lengthen your cords,
       strengthen your stakes.
 3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
       your descendants will dispossess nations
       and settle in their desolate cities.
 4 “Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame.
       Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
       You will forget the shame of your youth
       and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
 5 For your Maker is your husband—
       the LORD Almighty is his name—
       the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
       he is called the God of all the earth.
 6 The LORD will call you back
       as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit—
       a wife who married young,
       only to be rejected,” says your God.
 7 “For a brief moment I abandoned you,
       but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
 8 In a surge of anger
       I hid my face from you for a moment,
       but with everlasting kindness
       I will have compassion on you,”
       says the LORD your Redeemer.
 9 “To me this is like the days of Noah,
       when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
       So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
       never to rebuke you again.
 10 Though the mountains be shaken
       and the hills be removed,
       yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
       nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
       says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
 11 “O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
       I will build you with stones of turquoise, [a]
       your foundations with sapphires. [b]
 12 I will make your battlements of rubies,
       your gates of sparkling jewels,
       and all your walls of precious stones.
 13 All your sons will be taught by the LORD,
       and great will be your children’s peace.
 14 In righteousness you will be established:
       Tyranny will be far from you;
       you will have nothing to fear.
       Terror will be far removed;
       it will not come near you.
 15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
       whoever attacks you will surrender to you.
 16 “See, it is I who created the blacksmith
       who fans the coals into flame
       and forges a weapon fit for its work.
       And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;
 17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
       and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
       This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
       and this is their vindication from me,”
       declares the LORD.

In reading Isaiah 54, understand that God is saying that even though we face trials, that we must believe in His promise. He is saying that it may seem that He has abandoned us because things look, feel, sound so bad but He is right there beside us, over us, and in us at ALL times.  He is omnipresent. Isaiah 54:1

suggest we sing out of joy, even during the midst of a storm. “Sing, O barren woman,
       you who never bore a child;
       burst into song, shout for joy,
       you who were never in labor;
       because more are the children of the desolate woman
       than of her who has a husband,”
       says the LORD
Read the following verses to understand why. Isaiah 54:3 tells us that we need to raise our level of expectancy. Stretch our faith, our minds because God is doing things our minds can not fathom.

3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
       your descendants will dispossess nations
       and settle in their desolate cities.

Isaiah 54:5 says the Lord is our Husband.

 5 For your Maker is your husband—
       the LORD Almighty is his name—
       the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
       he is called the God of all the earth.

In other words, He is our provider. He will take care of us. Yes, I know you may be suffering financially. But the job and paycheck are vehicles, tools that God uses to bless you so you may bless others. So trust in the Lord. For He just told you in Isaiah 54:5 that He is your husband, your provider! Amen!  Verse 54: 9 and 10 God is telling us He will never rebuke us again. And He is telling you that His love is unfailing and that his covenant/promise of peace will not be removed!
Hallelujah. Read verses 11-15. These are powerful scriptures. God is saying yes you will go through storms, but they will be used to shape you, to strengthen you, to redirect you. And after the storm, the Lord God will build you up so that you are better than you were before the storm. Everything (good or bad) is used for the betterment of His kingdom. He even says your children’s peace will be great. Since I’m a mother, I love God’s promise that my childrens’ peace will be great. I believe it and know His word can not return void! Isaiah 54:15 tells us that if you are attacked it is not by God. But God will make your attacker suffer. 15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
       whoever attacks you will surrender to you.
Isaiah 54:17 no weapon formed against you will prevail. God is telling you that any tongue that accuses you, or starts lies and rumors, any gossip said about you, you will prove them to be wrong! God says in verse 17 that these promises and blessings and protection are inherited by His servants, the saved Christians.

17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
       and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
       This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
       and this is their vindication from me,”
       declares the LORD.
To experience these promises firsthand, you must believe that Jesus Christ is your only Access To God. If you do not believe it, then all these promises do not belong to you!

Let me encourage you to be strong during the storms. Be faithful! Look to God as your husband your provider! Because He told you He is. Know that He will never forsake you! Know that your enemies will suffer, know that you will prevail! In Jesus mighty, powerful, redeeming, enlightening, loving, perfect, Holy, majestic, overcoming, victorious name! Don’t Let Pictures Of Happy Couples On Facebook Get You Down

Friday, October 23, 2015
By

There is no such thing as a perfect couple. I’m amazed at how much perpetrating people do on Facebook and other social media.

It’s kind of funny to see people change their status and/or post happy pics of their significant other when I know everything is not so perfect. I’ve seen men post pics of their wives only to inbox or poke someone on facebook. I see so many single women warning married men to stop inboxing them or they will let their wives and the world know about their shady behavior.

I’ve also seen many boast of their significant other yet their significant other is not boasting about them. Next thing you know, they are no longer together or the relationship is complicated.

I said all that because if you are single and haven’t met “THE ONE” and you see so many so called happy couples, it may bring you down. But don’t let it. Or you may already be married and have experienced so many problems with your relationship that the happy pics on facebook make you sad. Don’t’ let it!

Don’t believe the hype. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship.

Every relationship will be tested. One thing is for sure, nothing stays the same. There are so many ways and times that relationships are challenged. For starters, all relationships will include disagreements. All relationships get tested by things like unemployment, health issues, the addition of children, difficult in-laws, etc.

Even if things are wonderful in a relationship, life will bring its challenges. So don’t get down if you don’t have the relationship that many people pre-tend to have on social media. Just keep preparing yourself for “THE ONE” so that you’ll be better equipped to handle the inevitable issues that come with relationships.

3 Valuable Resources To Find Jobs In Houston (And Surrounding Areas)

Sunday, February 1, 2015
By

Unemployed? Looking to relocate to Houston? Here are 3 absolute God sends when it comes to finding quality jobs in Houston and the surrounding areas.

1. Between Jobs Ministry of the Northwest Bible Church

OMG! If you don’t do anything else, you must get acquainted with this incredibly blessed jobs ministry! Why? For starters, they understand the emotions and challenges that come with being unemployed. They have the right processes, policies, people, and resources to ensure your thoughts are healthy spiritually and mentally. They understand that God’s first, family is second, and then employment.

So you may be thinking “yeah yeah so what?”. But that’s only the beginning of this ministries’ ability to bless you. They have weekly meetings and daily job postings in every industry you can think of. These jobs are real and of quality. If they suspect any fraudulent job postings, they deal with it swiftly and remove them. The prerequisite for you to receive their job postings is that you must attend at least one of their meetings which are held every Wednesday (unless it’s a holiday) at 8:30am at the
Northwest Bible Church
5503 Fellowship Lane
Spring, TX 77379

First timers will need to pre-register (online or at the door) at 8:30am on Wednesdays. But once you attend a meeting, the blessings will come in many forms. First, you will get added to their email distribution list. I get at least 10 -20 job postings a day from the ministry. Often recruiters include multiple job postings in a single email. So 20 jobs is actually a low estimate of what I receive.

I’m not looking for employment but I’ve been on the list probably over 10 years now just to keep an eye out for those who are looking and to stay abreast of market trends.

They also allow interested alumni such as myself to stay involved by not only receiving emails but also by becoming encouragers and contacts for their current group of people looking for work. So if you are interested in a company, or if you have an interview lined up with a company, you can contact the encouragers of the ministry that work at the company of interest. What better way to get an idea about the company and the work environment? Also, if you are interested in switching careers, you could contact the BJM encouragers who work in that field and ask them questions too.

Some other ways the ministry is helpful is that people are allowed to ask for prayer. Often I see BJMers ask for people to pray for an upcoming interview. Some ask for prayer as they may find themselves low in spirit while looking for employment.

The ministry also allows people to post items for sell or rent. In this way, BJMers can raise money at a time they probably really need it. Lastly, the Between Jobs Ministry has various sub-groups (like the Senior Managers Group) as well.

The Between Jobs Ministry also provides links and resources to not for profit job postings and other ministries that help people find jobs.

Overall, anyone who gets involved with this ministry will be blessed and ultimately become a blessing to others. I highly recommend it!

2. TweetMyJobs Houston

Alright job seekers, if you are looking for work in Houston and surrounding areas, another absolute must for you is the “TweetMyJobs Houston” platform. I first heard about the program by watching a segment on “Joy In Our Town”.

I was very impressed with the possibilities for job seekers and the no cost for job providers to post positions. Whether you are looking for work or providing job opportunities, you can use any device (computer, mobile tablet, phone) to look for jobs or post jobs.

In fact, one young lady who was looking for work stated she experienced a better response rate from employers by using TweetMyJobs Houston compared to the major job boards. But don’t just take my word for it, here is her story.

You can search their database of jobs and/or you can sign up to have job alerts sent to your choice of media (email, phone, twitter, etc). It looks to be quite promising as a job search tool. To register for the program you need to create an account at this link.

3. Nonprofit Jobs Posted At The United Way’s Job Bank

Don’t rule out the opportunity of working for a nonprofit organization. The United Way of Greater Houston provides a searchable job bank for job seekers. I like the fact that you don’t have to register to search their database of positions available.

I’m sure with faith, prayer, belief, and action you will find employment in a matter of time. As someone who experienced unemployment a couple of times, and who is now on the other side, I understand the various emotions that go along with it.

I hope the three resources I’ve metioned above are a blessing to you. Remember God has you and never give up! For more about my story and encouragement in general, visit the “Encouragement For The Unemployed” section of this site.

If you need prayer, feel free to call these 24 hour toll free prayer lines.

Remember, it is God who does things exceedingly and abundantly above all that we may ask…
Ephesians 3:20-21
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Walking in love my friend,
