3 Valuable Resources To Find Jobs In Houston (And Surrounding Areas)

Unemployed? Looking to relocate to Houston? Here are 3 absolute God sends when it comes to finding quality jobs in Houston and the surrounding areas.

1. Between Jobs Ministry of the Northwest Bible Church

OMG! If you don’t do anything else, you must get acquainted with this incredibly blessed jobs ministry! Why? For starters, they understand the emotions and challenges that come with being unemployed. They have the right processes, policies, people, and resources to ensure your thoughts are healthy spiritually and mentally. They understand that God’s first, family is second, and then employment.

So you may be thinking “yeah yeah so what?”. But that’s only the beginning of this ministries’ ability to bless you. They have weekly meetings and daily job postings in every industry you can think of. These jobs are real and of quality. If they suspect any fraudulent job postings, they deal with it swiftly and remove them. The prerequisite for you to receive their job postings is that you must attend at least one of their meetings which are held every Wednesday (unless it’s a holiday) at 8:30am at the
Northwest Bible Church
5503 Fellowship Lane
Spring, TX 77379

First timers will need to pre-register (online or at the door) at 8:30am on Wednesdays. But once you attend a meeting, the blessings will come in many forms. First, you will get added to their email distribution list. I get at least 10 -20 job postings a day from the ministry. Often recruiters include multiple job postings in a single email. So 20 jobs is actually a low estimate of what I receive.

I’m not looking for employment but I’ve been on the list probably over 10 years now just to keep an eye out for those who are looking and to stay abreast of market trends.

They also allow interested alumni such as myself to stay involved by not only receiving emails but also by becoming encouragers and contacts for their current group of people looking for work. So if you are interested in a company, or if you have an interview lined up with a company, you can contact the encouragers of the ministry that work at the company of interest. What better way to get an idea about the company and the work environment? Also, if you are interested in switching careers, you could contact the BJM encouragers who work in that field and ask them questions too.

Some other ways the ministry is helpful is that people are allowed to ask for prayer. Often I see BJMers ask for people to pray for an upcoming interview. Some ask for prayer as they may find themselves low in spirit while looking for employment.

The ministry also allows people to post items for sell or rent. In this way, BJMers can raise money at a time they probably really need it. Lastly, the Between Jobs Ministry has various sub-groups (like the Senior Managers Group) as well.

The Between Jobs Ministry also provides links and resources to not for profit job postings and other ministries that help people find jobs.

Overall, anyone who gets involved with this ministry will be blessed and ultimately become a blessing to others. I highly recommend it!

2. TweetMyJobs Houston

Alright job seekers, if you are looking for work in Houston and surrounding areas, another absolute must for you is the “TweetMyJobs Houston” platform. I first heard about the program by watching a segment on “Joy In Our Town”.

I was very impressed with the possibilities for job seekers and the no cost for job providers to post positions. Whether you are looking for work or providing job opportunities, you can use any device (computer, mobile tablet, phone) to look for jobs or post jobs.

In fact, one young lady who was looking for work stated she experienced a better response rate from employers by using TweetMyJobs Houston compared to the major job boards. But don’t just take my word for it, here is her story.

You can search their database of jobs and/or you can sign up to have job alerts sent to your choice of media (email, phone, twitter, etc). It looks to be quite promising as a job search tool. To register for the program you need to create an account at this link.

3. Nonprofit Jobs Posted At The United Way’s Job Bank

Don’t rule out the opportunity of working for a nonprofit organization. The United Way of Greater Houston provides a searchable job bank for job seekers. I like the fact that you don’t have to register to search their database of positions available.

I’m sure with faith, prayer, belief, and action you will find employment in a matter of time. As someone who experienced unemployment a couple of times, and who is now on the other side, I understand the various emotions that go along with it.

I hope the three resources I’ve metioned above are a blessing to you. Remember God has you and never give up! For more about my story and encouragement in general, visit the “Encouragement For The Unemployed” section of this site.

If you need prayer, feel free to call these 24 hour toll free prayer lines.

Remember, it is God who does things exceedingly and abundantly above all that we may ask…
Ephesians 3:20-21
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Walking in love my friend,

Tayarisha Joyce
